Pit Pass - Oakland

Oakland, CA SX Jan, 28 2012

Justin Brayton- Justin’s night started off much better than last week in Los Angeles. Justin holeshot his heat race and led for the first lap and a half before settling in to 4th. At least that meant a direct transfer to the main. In the main event Justin started about 12th-15th and started working his way up. By race end he sat in the 9th position. Not the result that Justin would have hoped for but compared to last week’s DNQ, he will take it. Great work Justin!

Rockstar Suzuki- Another up and down weekend for the Rockstar guys. Martin Davalos started off by getting the holeshot in his heat race and leading a few laps before settling into 3rd. In the Main event he rode solidly in the top 5 before finally resting in the 9th spot. The big excitement came from Jason Anderson after a crash in his heat race he went on to win the LCQ. In the main event he started outside the top 5 and after about 4 or 5 laps came charging up through the pack to hold 2nd position for a brief moment until he was relegated to the back of the pack by a crash. Jaosn got up brushed himself off and charged back to a 12th place finish by the checkers. Both Jason and Martin have the speed to run up front, they just need a couple things to go their way. Keep pushing guys!

Monster Energy Kawasaki- Ryan Villopoto and Jake Weimer earned 3rd and 8th place finishes respectively. Ryan was in the hunt all night for both the heat race and the main event win. At one point in the main event the top 3 riders were within 1 second of each other on the track. Ryan could not capitalize on any mistakes and ended up a hard fought third.

Geico Honda Powersports- Eli Tomac grabbed another win and started to stretch his points lead. Eli showed speed few can replicate in the lites class on his way to a commanding win. Kevin Windham took a solid ride (2nd) in his heat race and backed it up with a 6th place finish in the main. The Geico boys looked great on their ONE equipped CRF’s.

Yoshimura Suzuki- Brett Metcalfe soldiered to a 14th place finish in the main. Brett’s results are not indicative of his talent or his work ethic. Look for better things from him soon.

Privateers- Billy Laninovich had a great night, he holeshot and led his heat race for a few laps before succumbing to eventual race winner Eli Tomac and A1 winner Cole Seely. In the main event Billy got a respectable start was bounced around a bit and ended up in 13th. All in all Billy is outperforming anybody’s expectations and from the looks of it he is having a ton of fun. Keep up the great work Billy. Privateers Bruce Rutherford and Cody Gilmore have become fixtures in the night program but need to get a break to get back in the main events. Keep working guys, it will happen.
