After winning numerous amateur National Championships while still in middle school and high school, in 1998 young Nick Wey of Dewitt, Mich., was drafted into the professional ranks by the omnipotent Pro Circuit/Kawasaki team. A consistent top 10 finisher, Wey was awarded the prestigious 1998 AMA Supercross/Motocross Rookie of the Year Award. And so it then began for Wey, a decade-long odyssey through the sport that saw him put in time with both Yamaha and Suzuki-backed factory teams. In 2008, Wey placed a respectable ninth in the Monster Energy Supercross Series aboard an MDK/KTM – putting up the best 450 class results ever for the Austrian dirt bike company. For the 2009 season, Wey, 28, has joined Jason Lawrence on the fledgling Boost Mobile/ampm/Monster Energy/Troy Racing. Aboard a Yamaha YZ450F, Wey contested the premier Supercross and 450 Motocross classifications – placing in the top 15 overall in Monster Energy Supercross. “I’m excited and it’s a great group of guys to be working with, and we’re going to have a good package,” says Wey. “It’s everyone’s goal to win, so hopefully I can progress this season and then we’ll go from there.” Currently Wey has formed his own team the Mafia Moto Crew and is battle each round of Supercross with our ONE Industries graphics kit.
